Myself Summary
Corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, doctor of agricultural sciences, professor, works as a chief researcher, and at the same time temporarily performs the duties of the head of the fodder production department of the National Science Center “Institute of Agriculture of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences”, is well-known in Ukraine and abroad, experienced , a creatively thinking scientist in the field of meadow fodder production and ecology of nature use.
His scientific activity is related to the development and improvement of technologies and certain technological methods of improving natural fodder lands, the creation and rational use of cultivated hayfields and pastures. He developed ecological, biological and agrotechnical bases for the formation of sown meadow agrophytocenoses under intensive and organic onion cultivation in Polissia and the Forest Steppe of Ukraine.
He scientifically substantiated the ways of increasing the nature protection and fodder production role of natural fodder lands in agrolandscapes, as well as the need to use biological factors for the intensification of meadow fodder production, in particular the potential of perennial leguminous grasses; developed ways to increase the share and stability of perennial leguminous grasses as a source of symbiotic nitrogen in meadow coenoses, as well as onion pasture management systems on lands removed from intensive cultivation; improved the principles of selection and methods of placing components in grass mixes, optimized their species and variety composition and seed sowing rates, fertilization, irrigation and use of sown grass stands, as well as methods of using associative and symbiotic nitrogen-fixing bacterial preparations and growth biostimulators on meadows. He theoretically substantiated the concept of ecological and external buffer capacities of meadow ecosystems and their relationship with productivity. He also substantiated the need for organic onion cultivation, the formation of ecologically safe recreational zones, the development of agrotourism, which will contribute not only to the production of ecologically safe human food products of animal origin, but also to the protection of the environment (soils from erosion, water sources from siltation, and the preservation of biodiversity).
Currently, he was and is the scientific leader and responsible executor of tasks, as well as a member of the coordinating councils of the Scientific Research Programs “Agricultural and land use systems”, “Forage production”, “Agroecology”, “Farming”, “Organic production of agricultural products”, budget program 2801060 Scientific developments in the field of standardization and certification of agricultural products” and others. Under his leadership, complex experimental studies were carried out and continued in different ecological, phytocenotic and soil conditions of the Polissia and Forest Steppe of Ukraine.
His research work is aimed at:
– solving important problems of increasing the fodder production and nature protection role of grasslands in agricultural landscapes;
– increasing the efficiency of using symbiotic nitrogen of perennial leguminous grasses in onion production, as a source of symbiotic nitrogen, which helps save energy and improve the ecological state of the environment, the efficiency of using the potential of species and new varieties of perennial grasses in meadow fodder production;
– development of rational, ecologically safe fertilization systems and rational use of meadow lands;
– optimization of meadow fodder management systems on lands removed from intensive cultivation in the complex of nature protection measures of modern agriculture;
– the combination of technological developments for the production of ecologically safe grass fodder with ecological ones (the formation of ecologically safe recreational areas in landscapes), which will contribute not only to providing the population with organic food products, but also to protecting the soil from erosion and water sources from silting and pollution, preserving biodiversity;
– standardization, taking into account world experience and modern market conditions, of ecologically safe technical conditions for the production of the main types of fodder, terms and concepts in meadow and field fodder production, methods of assessing the energy and nutritional value of fodder, and methods of determining plant and soil cover, cultural and technical condition and productivity, etc. natural fodder lands, technological processes of improvement of natural fodder lands, creation and rational use of cultural hayfields and pastures and various lawns;
– development of measures aimed at alternative use of natural fodder lands, aimed at strengthening not only their nature conservation role in landscapes (preservation of sanctuaries, nature reserves, formation of recreational areas, etc.), but also at rational use of their bioenergy potential, development of lawn farming, ecotourism, beekeeping, etc.
In his scientific activity, he strives to deepen knowledge, widely uses modern, in particular, mathematical methods of research with computer support, and methods of geobotanical survey of natural fodder lands, in-depth generalization and analysis of the achievements of science and practice.
He is distinguished by perseverance in achieving creative and life goals, is able to analyze experimental material, has a high level of theoretical and methodological thinking. He is the author of about 300 scientific works, of which 160 are in leading professional publications, including category B, 12 ¬– in publications that are included in the scientific metric databases of Scopus and Web of Science, 19 – in foreign publications; 24 – in publications included in international scientometric databases, 26 – monographs (1 single), 30 – DSTU, 2 – in the Modern Encyclopedia of Ukraine. Has 3 patents for inventions. His works are characterized by a high degree of generalization and methodical level.
Out of 57 years of total experience, he has 50 years of continuous scientific experience in his chosen profession, of which 27 years are in the position of chief scientific employee and head of the department (laboratory).
It has its own scientific school in the field of meadow fodder production and environmental ecology. He trained 1 doctor of agricultural sciences, 11 candidates of agricultural sciences and one doctor of philosophy and continues to train them.
Participates in the scientific and organizational activities of the presidium of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine and two departments (plant production and agriculture, land reclamation and mechanization):
– member of commissions for comprehensive inspection of institutes;
– invited consultant on onion growing in the work of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences and in the implementation of its decisions, and reviewing the reports of scientific institutions in the department of plant growing.
Has an active lifestyle. He is the deputy chairman of the Methodological Commission on Agriculture and Crop Production of the National Science Center “Institute of Agriculture of the National Academy of Sciences”, a member of the permanent and one-time specialized scientific councils for the defense of theses, as well as the editorial boards of the scientific collections “Agriculture and Crop Production: Theory and Practice”, “Agriculture”, ” Fodder and fodder production”, “Introduction of plants”. He is a non-staff expert of the National Accreditation Agency and a participant in the liquidation of the consequences of the Chernobyl NPP accident.
He is a well-known scientist abroad. In 2008, he completed an internship in Sweden, in 2008-2012 he was a member of the executive committee, and from 2008 to the present, he is a permanent representative of Ukraine in the European Federation of Onion Growers. Participated in the implementation of the 3rd UNESCO program “Man and the Biosphere” and a joint international project on improving the use of nature in Polissia with the participation of three countries.
As a leading scientist in his field, he successfully combines scientific activity with a high level of implementation of scientific developments. He personally developed a number of important for agricultural science and practice fundamental provisions and complex ecologically safe technologies in the field of fodder production and onion growing, as well as the ecology of nature use, which have been widely tested and implemented in agricultural production, scientific and educational and other spheres of the national economy of Ukraine. In his developments, which he recommends for inclusion in business plans for the creation of organic agricultural enterprises, he suggests combining technological issues with environmental ones, which contributes not only to the production of ecologically safe fodder and livestock products, but also to environmental protection.
On the basis of his research, he published about 40 scientific-methodical and practical recommendations for production, technology passports, booklets, methods, etc., most of which are based on the DSTU developed by him, which are successfully used not only in production, but also in scientific and educational processes. Thanks to his creative initiative, perseverance and efficiency, he standardized almost the entire field of meadow fodder production and some issues of field fodder production and ecology of nature use.
Participated in the creation and implementation of about 10 innovative technological, legislative and regulatory resolutions, projects and acts (“The Law on Natural Fodder Lands” and others) regarding rational nature management and sustainable development, which were submitted for approval to various state and foreign authorities.
For his conscientious and effective scientific activity, he was elected an academician of the Ukrainian Academy of Technology and was repeatedly awarded diplomas at the local, district, and regional levels.
